Use the cable ripper to remove the sheath.

Strip the black wire end. Use the correct slot.

Strip the white wire end. Same slot.

Bend the black wire into a clockwise loop.

Bend the white wire into a clockwise loop.
Slot tip
#14 household wire uses slot 14 on the stripper. Wrong slot = damaged copper = fail.

Why slot matters

Wire strippers have numbered slots matching wire gauges. Use too small a slot and you nick the copper, weakening the wire. Use too big and the insulation isn't cut cleanly.
  • ○ #14 wire → slot 14
  • ○ Strip ~3/4 inch of insulation
  • ○ No nicks in the copper
  • ○ Loop clockwise so it tightens with screw
